This strong and controversial play confronted the nuclear problem by having an employee of an atomic energy station commit suicide in protest at nuclear proliferation. The music proved to have staying power, first acting as the score for a ballet on the crucifixion, Robert North's The Annunciation' (1979) and later as thematic material in Stabat Mater (2001)
