On the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the Reformation, Tobias van de Locht will again perform his First Symphony, which was commissioned by the Northelbian Church for the Year of Luther in 2013 and has since been heard in Braunschweig, Peine, Düsseldorf, Königswinter and Bonn. In the work, which was originally conceived as a Christmas cantata and extended to a symphony cantata in 2015, Tobias van de Locht sets all Luther texts about Christmas, so that the symphony now fits perfectly into this pre-Christmas concert, the 500th anniversary of Luther's theses in Wittenberg pays homage. In the center of the concert is therefore also Mendelssohn's Reformation Symphony , which in the last sentence the Luther chorale A solid castle is our God processed. The two symphonies are complemented with other genuine rarities: a choral setting from Mendelssohn's unfinished oratorio Christus , in which, among other things, the chorale How beautifully lit the morning star sounds, Sir Malcolm Arnold's fierce Commonwealth Christmas Overture , in which the great old man of the British music scene, creator The River Kwai March and Mentor by Tobias van de Locht have set the stage for Christmas in all parts of the Commonwealth (including Caribbean sounds) and a world premiere, the Concertino for Harp and Strings by Howard Blake, the creator of what is probably the most famous Christmas tale The snowman wrote for harpist Isabelle Marchewka. Look forward to a varied and festive evening!
