Composer note: 'This was commisioned by the head of the BBC Music department, Norman Mead. When I delivered it he asked whom I admired as an arranger in this field and I replied: 'Quincy Jones'. It apparently was not the answer he wanted and it was shelved. 'However not so long after this I found myself working for Quincy Jones.'
