In the Spring of 1957 I set 'Strings in the earth and air', 'Goldenhair', 'Winds of May' and 'All day I hear the noise of waters making moan', but at that moment Howard Ferguson abandoned his role as my composition professor at RAM and I abandoned the song-cycle. In 2012 I decided to revise what existed and extended them to a cycle of 15 James Joyce Songs [see opus 641 2012]
