Choral
Choral works begin with a vocal/piano score which can be hired for the duration of rehearsals and performance, or bought in bulk with a negotiated price reduction. Sometimes a recording is available for sale. A3 full scores, A4 study scores and orchestral parts are usually hired. Separate text, programme notes, performance instructions and reviews may also be available on request.
Orchestral
A3 full scores or A4 study scores are usually hired, but may be bought. Orchestral parts are usually hired for a period of a month, or longer by negotiation.
Chamber Music
Score and individual parts are usually on A4 and may be bought or hired.
Instrumental Music
Score and individual parts are usually on A4 and may be bought or hired.
Brass & Woodwind
Score and individual parts are usually on A4 and may be bought or hired.
Vocal
Score and individual parts are usually on A4 and may be bought or hired.
Stage Works
Stage works need vocal / piano scores and A3 full scores or A4 study scores which can be hired for the duration of rehearsals and performances, or purchased outright. Sometimes a recording is available for sale. A separate libretto or script may be available on request.
Film & TV Scores
This is a complete list of scores composed, produced and conducted by the composer. Scores are only available as a special order. Durations indicate the amount of music written, not the overall length of the film.
Commercials
This is a short list of the more interesting commercial music tracks composed, conducted and recorded by Howard Blake for television, cinema and radio, selected from over 200 projects.
Many of the film directors with whom he has worked learnt their craft in making what were often brilliant miniatures and Howard attributes much of his skill in orchestration and synchronising music to film to his experience gained in this area.
In general music for commercials is not available, although 'Lakme', used by British Airways for more than 20 years, has become globally famous and is available in many versions on commercial recordings.
